Last Sunset
Last Sunset
How odd the evening sky was today?
Pinkish-crimson streaked the horizon's way,
Shadows of fire's embers past glowing.
I view the last sunset knowing:
That in my heart are tears of despair
I raise my head to heaven in a simple prayer.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
Golden orange-yellow hues graced from the setting sun.
Prelude to the war clouds churning, once again the battle's begun.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Almighty grant our soldiers safe from harm
Protect our friends and families near, harbor them close and warm.
As the moon begins to rise, the fullness of it's shining light
A smoky-gray hazy wisp begins to creep and change the stillness of the night,
An eerie illumination casts an ominous gleam,
Belayed the distant death and silent screams.
If I should die before I wake,
Grant us victory for the chosen ones,
Freedom and Liberty for our daughters and sons.
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Death becomes my morning dawn, To greet my Maker, at the pearly gates
Defiantly, I profess my beliefs, "My Country-right or wrong
That America and her Allies, united, are still true and strong."
